Meet the Instructors! 
 
Debbie: 
 
Debbie is a passionate Group Fitness Instructor who began her journey in 2016 at the TW Davis YMCA in Richmond. With years of experience, she’s committed to helping others stay active, strong, and healthy. She believes daily movement is one of the best things you can do for your health — improving mood, sleep, and energy while reducing the risk of chronic disease. Her classes focus on functional strength training using bodyweight, weights, bands, and resistance machines to build muscle, improve balance, and support overall wellness.
 
Outside of fitness, Debbie is a permitted Wildlife Rehabilitator and enjoys rescuing orphaned baby mammals. She’s also an avid runner working toward her goal of completing a half marathon in all 50 states.

Dayna:
 
Dayna Lockwood is a Certified Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach, Weight Loss Specialist, and Group Fitness Instructor. With a deep passion for health and wellness, she loves sharing her enthusiasm with the world. Dayna is also a SilverSneakers Certified Group Fitness Instructor and has over five years of experience working with Older Active Adults.
 
Her journey in the fitness industry began with teaching group classes, which eventually led her to become a Personal Trainer. Despite her diverse qualifications, teaching group fitness classes remains her primary passion. Dayna is very excited to start teaching classes at Del Webb Sweetgrass and looks forward to helping participants achieve their fitness goals.
 
Laurey: 
 
Laurey creates inclusive fitness classes that empower participants to get stronger, regardless of their limitations. With a Bachelor of Science from HBU and a background in athletic training, Laurey understands the body's movement before and after injuries.
 
Since starting at TW Davis Y in 1998, Laurey has taught a variety of classes, including water aerobics, yoga, pilates, strength training, kickboxing, and chair exercise. Using skills from each type of exercise, Laurey designs unique combination classes tailored to individual needs, helping students feel better after every session. Classes

Aquacise Class
Come and have fun in the pool. All fitness levels are welcome. You don’t need to know how to swim. Take an hour to yourself working on stretching, strengthening, balance, and building heart and lung strength and endurance. We work hard and laugh a lot. You may even sing along while working out. Morning and afternoon classes are available.
 
Chair Exercise (Level 1)
Reclaim your Balance by adding strength to your muscles and bones. Using a variety of exercises along with movement from sitting to standing, residents learn how to work with their bodies in a way that creates knowledge and confidence in their ability to stay upright while standing and moving. All ability levels are welcome and modifications are given throughout the exercise. For this class, residents will be standing and sitting at various times. There will be No floorwork in this class.
 
Chair Exercise Better Balance
This chair exercise class focuses on creating Better Balance for your everyday activities. The emphasis will be lower body; legs, hips, abs, and back to strengthen and limber those areas allowing for better movement and greater balance.
 
Core Strength
Join us for Core Strength with Debbie! This invigorating class is dedicated to enhancing your core strength and fortifying muscles to support your overall health and well-being. Don't miss out on this opportunity to sculpt your body and boost your vitality.
 
Fitness Center 101
We are thrilled to welcome dedicated fitness expert, Dayna Lockwood, to our Fitness Center. Dayna, a licensed fitness instructor and personal trainer, will be on hand the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month to give Fitness Center orientations to Sweetgrass residents. Learn more about our different machines, what they are for, and how they are used. As part of this lesson, Dayna will also monitor the residents as they use the equipment, to help ensure they are using it properly and safely. Free to residents! RSVP required. Please note, this is not a personal training session, but an orientation of the Fitness Center.
 
Lunch Crunch (Flexibility)
30 minutes of mobility exercises for our shoulders, spine, neck, and hips. Static stretching for the remaining 30 minutes holding each stretch a minimum of 60 seconds to 90 seconds per stretch. We also work on deep breathing throughout the entire class to promote relaxation and greater flexibility of the muscles. Residents will be on the floor for the last 30 to 40 minutes of the class. Bring a towel or pillow if lying on your back makes you dizzy. Assistance can be provided if anybody needs help up off the floor!
 
Lunch Crunch (Strength)
A full body strength class that works all of the large muscle groups. Legs, back, chest, biceps, triceps, shoulders, and we also work 10 minutes of core followed by 10 minutes of stretching. Cardio intervals are also added in during the class to keep heart rates up! Residents will be on the floor for the last 20 minutes of the class.
 
Chair Exercise Move To Improve
Join us for an invigorating fitness session led by the dynamic Laurey! Designed specifically for residents looking to enhance their overall movement and balance abilities, this class is your ticket to a healthier, more active lifestyle.
During our sessions, we'll dive into practical exercises aimed at improving your day-to-day mobility and stability. Whether you're reaching for something on a high shelf or navigating uneven terrain, our focus is on equipping you with the strength and coordination needed for everyday tasks. Don't miss the opportunity to enhance your quality of life and overall well-being. 
 
Yoga Plus (Core Strength)
Move with Confidence as your Balance Improves. Using a variety of yoga, pilates, and strength exercises in creative ways to help bones and muscles get stronger. Opportunities will be given to practice a variety of balance poses and learn the adjustments that will allow the participant to be more confident with their overall balance. All ability levels are welcome and modifications are given throughout the exercise. Participants will be moving from sitting and lying on the floor to standing and back to sitting on the floor throughout the class.
 
Yoga Plus (Bone & Joint Strength)
Relax and Stretch muscles into the joints using a variety of stretches and yoga poses. Deeply relaxing stretches will allow for the lengthening of muscles which can reduce pain while increasing the ability to sit up taller and move with fewer restrictions. All ability levels are welcome and modifications are given throughout the exercise. Participants will be moving from sitting and lying on the floor to standing and back to sitting on the floor throughout the class.
 
Yoga Plus (Stretch & Balance)
Enjoy the combination of yoga and strength training using the participants body weight, as well as hand weights. An entire body workout including working the CORE, both abs and back, is accomplished in this class. The overall strengthening will assist in creating better balance, and allowing for ease with daily activities. All ability levels are welcome and modifications are given throughout the exercise. Participants will be moving from sitting and lying on the floor to standing and back to sitting on the floor throughout the class.
 
Zumba
A fun, high-energy cardio class set to upbeat music that will have you moving and shaking to burn calories and shed unwanted weight. Join the fun with Mishell!
